In the late seventeenth century, a young survivor of the Great Plague discovers that pestilence which has ravaged her village is not yet over: it is simply biding its time. In the early twenty~first century, another young woman holds a prophetic book in her hands, and realizes that the bubonic palgue may be coming back to claim the few remaining survivors in her own town. Both women face a choice betweeen dangerous innocence and deadly knowledge, for both women are linked through the ages by their attraction to one man-and by Destiny.
