While not an autobiography in the classic sense, The Dreamer takes place in a time through which the author lived. In an attempt to confirm the aspirations of the dreamers among us, Will Eisner deals with people and scenes that have the feel and quality of reality. "It is a story that should satisfy those curious about life in and around a typical comic book studio of the middle 1930s," Eisner says. "It is intended as a kind of graphic historical novel set in the primordial dawn of the comic book industry."
